Tubestock Plants Online - What is Tubestock and Why to Buy it?
"What are Tubestock Plants?" Explained.
Tubestock plants are smaller plants that are more likely to be seen in a wholesale production nursery. They're grown in smaller nursery grow pots to encourage a fully established root system before they're ready to go into the ground or a pot at your place. Without fully established root systems there is a higher risk of your plant not surviving when planted in the ground. Most nurseries buy tubestock (smaller nursery pots) from a wholesaler to then grow up into larger sized pots to then sell onto the public. We're just taking out the middle man. No risk for you, we hold the stock longer so they have a well-established root system.

What is tubestock planting?
Tube stock planting is when you decide to purchase smaller plants in bulk and save on the elbow grease, money & time. Tubestock just means that is the size pot you are purchasing. It is not always a good indicator of the size of the plant. The longer the plant stays in that pot the larger it will be. We grow them over a longer period to make your job easier.
Soooo a plant in a tube can often be as large or at times even larger than a bigger pot (eg 125mm or 140mm pot). Depending on the nursery, premium tubestock will have fully established root systems and be ground ready to roll, they can even catch up to the big ones in no time! Just make sure you water them well before you plant into the ground so they don't dry out. At PIAB we follow you for the first 30 days of your plant's life and guide you through. It's like having your own Garden Coach.

How do you plant tubestock plants?
Now, this is where you will thank us, smaller plants mean smaller holes to dig. On arrival, water your tubestock plants from the bottom up - simply place your tubes in a sink or large container of water approx 4-5cm (1.5-2 inches) deep and then let your mail-order plants soak up the goodness from the bottom of their pots. Ten to 15 minutes should do the job.
Gently squeeze or tap the plant out of its tube with two fingers supporting the stem. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and twice as deep as the tube, water lightly after planting, (making sure your roots are well watered before they go into the ground). Fill in your hole and make sure your mulch is sitting far enough away from the stem so as not to cause any rotting of the stem. It will also form a little well to catch the water to percolate down to the root zone.
Now sit back and watch your new tube-stock plants grow...
